Dranouter is located in the green environment of Heuvelland at 2 km from the French borders, surrounded by the Kemmelberg, the Zwarte Berg, the Rode Berg and the Catsberg.

Its the region by exellence for bikers and strollers, with a nice variety of restaurants serving traditional food and cosy pubs.

Before, Dranouter had a priest who was supported by revenues of the properties of the local parish. In contrary to the priest, the curate was supported by an edification.

An edification  had a farmhouse and a few estates. Sometimes a curate could receive an income from another parish. For example, the curate of Kemmel received his support from Nieuwkerke.
